Bio

A Pakistani actor and singer, Fawad Afzal Khan rose to fame after starring in the critically acclaimed international movie Khuda Kay Liye. He then went on to appear in successful Pakistani serials like Dastaan (2010), Humsafar (2011), and Zindagi Gulzar Hai (2012). Fawad Khan broke into the Hindi film industry with the 2014 comedy-drama film Khoobsurat, for which he bagged a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. Born as Fawad Afzal Khan in Karachi, Pakistan, Fawad spent parts of his childhood in Greece, Manchester, and Saudi Arabia. When he was just 10, his family shifted to Lahore, Pakistan and he did his schooling at Lahore Grammar School. Fawad then completed his graduation from the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Lahore. While in college, he learned to play the guitar and joined Entity Paradigm, an alternative rock band in Lahore. Formed in 2000, the band resolved in 2007. In 2009 the band made an official comeback, but in 2012, Fawad left it to pursue a career in acting. Fawad Khan made his silver screen debut in 2007, with the Pakistani drama film Khuda Kay Liye. Directed by Shoaib Mansoor, the movie along with Fawad starred Shaan Shahid, Iman Ali, and Naseeruddin Shah in pivotal roles. The movie which deals with the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks on the Muslims living in America, gained critical acclaim across the globe, with the famous Indian critique Rajeev Masand saying, “Khuda Kay Liye is a brave and inherently honest film that addresses pertinent issues like Islamic fundamentalism, the status of women in contemporary Islam, the consequential effects of 9/11 on Muslims in America, and the divide in Pakistani society between the liberals and the extremists.” This movie established Fawad as not only a good-looking star but as someone with immense talent and potential towards the craft. Seven years after his maiden film in Pakistan, in 2014, Fawad broke into the Bollywood industry with the romantic drama Khoobsurat. Loosely based on 1980 film of the same name, the movie starred Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan in the lead. Although the film performed much better internationally than domestically, Fawad was welcomed in the Indian entertainment industry with highly positive reviews for his portrayal of Yuvraj Vikram Singh Rathore, the prince of Sambhalgarh. His subsequent release was Shakun Batra's Kapoor and Sons opposite an ensemble cast, comprising Siddharth Malhotra, Ratna Pathak Shah, Rajat Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt. Fawad once again received several accolades for his performance as a mature and successful writer Rahul Kapoor, with Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama saying, “Fawad Khan, on the other hand, surprises everyone with his exceptionally sensitive performance that can be rightly termed as a 'straight-from-the-heart act.” His second project in 2016 includes Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The movie stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead role, with Fawad Khan essaying an essential but small role.
